India lost the Davis Cup tie against Uzbekistan 3-0 with their doubles defeat on Saturday. India on friday lost the two singles matches that Sanam Singh and Yuki Bhambri played. But that was an expected result as India are not strong contenders for singles win.
India who were considered the strong favourites for doubles tie has lost it too. The Indian pair of Leander Paes-Rohan Bopanna lost to Uzbekistan pair of Murad Inoyatov and Denis Istomin 7-6(4), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The usual doubles partner of Bopanna is Mahesh Bhupathi but the latter opted out of the tournament.
The reverse singles is yet to be played. One of the singles player Sanam Singh is on his way back home already after acquiring Chicken Pox. So the one of the reverse singles match will be played by some other player.
Now Paes is one of the leading doubles player in the country but he can only pair with either Bhupathi or Bopanna in London Olympics but with Paes and Bopanna losing the Davis Cup tie, it should be either Paes-Bhupathi or Bhupathi-Bopanna.
Since Paes and Bhupathi parted their ways apart earlier this year, it is most probably the pair of Bhupathi-Bopanna that will travel to London 2012 for doubles.
